What a cool quote! If you want something in life, you first must learn to give this something. If you want love, you must give love. If you want money, you must give money. I think this is a fundamental law of nature used even today.

But sometimes even you don't give anything, something comes accidentally... For example, even you don't give love... Love from someone enters to you, even though you don't love her, then hate comes back to this person... But that quote from Alphonse is real true, cause if you gave hate from some person, hate comes to you too but its not coming from the person you've made hatred, but from someone you love too... This hurts...

Yeh, whilst you may not do anything and good things do come to you, but generally these things then aren't long lasting.

Basically it comes down to the more you give in life, the more you get in return.

Dante and Hoenhiem had it right in FMA, there is no equivalent exchange in the "larger picture"; it only applies within yourself, not without.

Isn't that a greek saying by the way? That's a powerful quote because it makes you wonder what it means. if you give something you get something in return and viseversa that's what this quote basically means.

I am quite fond of Al's quote. However, there is nothing equal about it. It's hard to imagine gaining anything no matter how grand it is for not doing anything. For example, you win $1 million in the lottery, most would often say you did nothing to win that $1 million. But you did, you drove/walked to the store, purchased the ticket and paid attention to the lottery. Thats why I prefer the saying "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return," over their idea of equivelant exchange as it does not specify of anything being of equal value.

I think that it is cool, and I believe in it. When Dante uses the example of the state alchemy test, and states talks about the people who stdied for months and years, but didn't get to become state alchemist, she mustn't realize that those people did get get something of value in turn: they knew more about alchemy. The world is a constant cycle: everyone has problems in life, may it ne hunger, money, or even loneliness. Life has problems, it's our jobs to go through them. We will make mistakes, but we WILL eventually learn from them, because we can't do everything right: the world itself is imperfect, it's axis is tilted. This is why I believe in Eqiuvalent Exchange, no matter what happens we still get something of value. THAT IS THE TRUTH BEYOND ALL TRUTHS, THE LAW OF NATURE!

you have a very good point every thing people do is a that qoute. but know what would make it better if we could actually put like a pound of meatal and change it into a little statue just by puting it in a cool little transmutation circal. no mater how hard i tryied i couldn't get any thing out of it no glowing light no nothin, even if the circle was perfect in every way a posible. so if any one knows how to do real alchamy please PM me imidatly that would be awsome. but ill have to live without if for now
