well from what ive seen is when its created its a kind of liquid/solid because it still has the shape of the stone but it has the properties of a liquid

there is more than one type of philosiphers stone one the fake that is like a liquid/solid and the true stone that is a stone as shown when donte and hoenhiem made the stone both stones can amplifies alchemic reactions but the red stone aka the fake will backfire after a while the original only slowly loses power.
