Don't you just hate Forgetting a title?

I am always reading all sorts of mangas, and for the most part I can remember everything I read, but every now and again one slips through the cracks, and I forget the title. That is what has been eating at me this afternoon. I read a good manga a few months ago, and for the life of me can't remember the title.

    Genre: Shounen, Adventure
A female protagonist lives on a tiny island with her brother(?) and can do just about anything she sets her mind to, as long as she believes in herself. She ends up leaving the island to join an organization of cartographers(?), to explore and discover new things. There were some mention of powers, such as the woman who invited her to join the organization being good with plants. The details start getting fuzzy, hence the abundance of question marks, it has been a few months, after all. I seem to recall mermaids being involved in one of the story arcs, where said mermaids would turn into fish if they saw a man, though I can be off on that one.

I'm certain everyone has been through this before, so if you have a similar problem, feel free to post a description of something you have forgotten and we'll see if we can help each other out.

Well now, I just found it on my own. It was the memory of the mermaid bit that did it. The manga was Esprit.
