Thread: How do I write a manga story?

Well, when i wrote out my manga storyline, i used script. I didnt feel like using paper, so i used the notebook on my computer. whenever i get an awesome idea, i dont hesitate to type it down, eventually, the many little ideas i get kinda fit together, and thats when i come up with a good storyline.
I usually follow these basic guidelines when making a story or manga:
File:Freytags pyramid.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Also, I keep the time of occurence and setting in mind, for example, if the manga storys setting is feudal-era japan, id make the characters wear old fashioned kimonos, use time appropriate weapons, language, and so on. with the characters, youd have to come up with that on your own, whatever looks good to you. When it comes to personality, itd be sure to take notes on how you want them to act, and make them talk a certain way, do things differently the way you want them to, etc. Thats giving life to the characters you put on the page, which is a good element in many well-known manga. Now with conflicts ans such, itd be sure to make it in depth, but not too technical, we want to reel the reader in, not confuse the hell out of them. You can start off with a script, placing your ideas onto paper or on the computer with a decent plot behind it. But don't make it too overly-descriptive, otherwise readers will become bored. If you find it boring to write then the reading will probably be worse, so just skip to the good stuff.

Drawing it is also a good idea. But before drawing it; learn to read it first. This gives you a basic idea of the pnaelling and order you should use it in, and also gives inspiration on experimenting with panel sizes and position, et cetra.

Thank you both for the great ideas I will try them out, I'm not the drawing type I can barely draw a stick figure. >.< I'm just writing the story for someone who wants to make a manga with me.

He man are you still looking for ideas and plot structure at the moment? because i'm doing that in english at the moment, and i'v got like a paragraph of how to sort of thing along with a quick sketch of a story?

You can always try writing it in the traditional comic book script. It's a bit harder than it looks but, it won't kill ya. ^_^ Here's a link: How to write a comic book script

I personally draw thumbnails for my panels then do the scripting (Kinda like storyboarding). There's not really just one way to write manga/comics. If you work for a company, it's a bit different. You'd have to use the method mentioned earlier. I used to just write as I drew. So, it kept my pages spontaneous. It's a bit frustrating when you get writer's block though because it keeps you from drawing and making progress.

I usually write down a summarized version of a story and go back and do any revisions or additions before writing any final drafts. It's a great way to preserve your original script and make any changes you see fit before adding any details and fleshing out your story.
