I wouldn't recommend it... mainly because it isn't remotely interesting. Though ANIMA+ is indeed adorable and completely inoffensive in every possible way. That might be another good choice. Your daughter may also enjoy magical girl series like "Tokyo Mew Mew" or "Sailor Moon"... just preview the books first as they deal with slightly older students and ocaisionally delve into issues that, while appropriate for Japanese elementary school students, are not always considered appropriate by American parents (homosexuality, non-sexual nudity, character death)

Ok, unfortunately, I have not read Kamichana karin although my library two volumes of the manga. And i have to agree that Dr. Slump is kinda more based for older kids than a 9 year old. But as for Manga I would sugest Card Captor Sakura: Definitely a thumbs up for that particular age. She'll have a lot of fun with that. Its a nice storyline about magical cards called clow cards. +Anima Although I have not read much, Only the first Volume. It seems a nice storyline about people with animal powers. Tsubasa Resovoir Chronicles I am really suprised that not anyone has reccomended this manga. I love this manga, I have read about ten manga I will finish the series but im more Interested in others. Well Its a nice drawn manga by CLAMP. And the plot is nice. Check out the trailer and maybe see if she could read it now or when she is a bit older. But the plot is about an young archaelogist that has to retrieve a young girl's memories Maybe check out the Anime trailer that will give you a nice idea of the plot Heres the HTMLYouTube - Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLES Dub trailer

Again for adult themes, character death and homosexuality... not to mention it's a total waste of time if you haven't read all of the other material it's derived from (and even then is basically just a giant commercial for CLAMP's manga catalog)

Diamond in the Rough | Re: Manga for a young girl Yeah I tried to look for 'Sailor Moon' and we found the first two volumes at our library but it seems to be out of print. Thanks, I will look for 'Tokyo Mew Mew' I watched a couple of Tsubasa episodes and I don't think she would like it. She likes it when there is at least one female in the main cast and from what I've seen its mostly just 3 guys. Thanks kurapika, though for the in depth snip its. ![]()

![]() Credits: 22,734 | Re: Manga for a young girl If this girl is as intelligent and mature as I'm assuming, I'm not sure she'd be as entertained by Naruto very much... Am I the only one who thought that being stealthy and wearing bright orange everywhere didn't fit? :laughs: Yes, Full Moon is directed toward girls younger than Naruto's target audience. But it has angst, comedy, and romance. Which are the three main ingredients to making a sucessful shoujo manga, or manga that appeals to young females in general, aside from art and plot... From my experience. Perhaps I haven't been on enough forums, but I'm pretty sure many girls enjoy angst, comedy, and romance. Dang, that was the title. Im glad +Anima was mentioned, but I have to warn you it's only 10 volumes long... It died early in my opinion. And I have to agree with the recommendation for Tokyo Mew Mew. Fun, cute, and charming to the point it's disturbing if you think about it.

![]() ![]() Credits: 9,052 | Re: Manga for a young girl I dunno... I loved Card Captor Sakura and all.. but there's just something about it that tells me that it wouldn't be PERFECT for a young girl. Question... why has no one suggested Doraemon yet? Or possibly even Hamtaro? (though that would be hard to find in manga-form) You could always stick with movie-mangas... such as My Neighbor Totoro or any other Miyazaki film mangas. (well, other than Princess Mononoke, of course) ...well, I have to agree with Abu Dhabi ( I kinda' have to )...Dr. Slump and +Anima are great choices. I know you think Dr. Slump is too perverted for your daughter, but if she's innocent enough: She won't get it. I know when I was young, those kind of naughty jokes slipped right past me. And trust me, I've seen a bunch of R rated movies when I was little. (Seeing those movies again made me realize how R rated they really were) ...well, I suppose with today's entertainment, and the kinds of friends these children make, it'll be near impossible for her to never get those jokes. It really is just a fun-filled manga. But I would suggest +Anima... I have to warn you, there is a FEW FEW FEW blood in it. It's part of a sad storyline (it does cheer up and it does teach a lesson though). But it's a heart-warming manga, with good morals. Full of adventure and fun! I don't see these kind of mangas around as much these days. But if you want more suggestions, you can always try getting her into Pokemon... or possibly even Lagoon Engine. I don't know that much shoujo, sorry. ![]() |
