Why not try naruto I know a lot of girls who read those. And I'm not sure if this is a manga or just an anime but a lot of younger girls like sailor moon.

Re: Manga for a young girl

If this girl is as intelligent and mature as I'm assuming, I'm not sure she'd be as entertained by Naruto very much... Am I the only one who thought that being stealthy and wearing bright orange everywhere didn't fit? :laughs:

Yes, Full Moon is directed toward girls younger than Naruto's target audience. But it has angst, comedy, and romance. Which are the three main ingredients to making a sucessful shoujo manga, or manga that appeals to young females in general, aside from art and plot... From my experience. Perhaps I haven't been on enough forums, but I'm pretty sure many girls enjoy angst, comedy, and romance.

Dang, that was the title. Im glad +Anima was mentioned, but I have to warn you it's only 10 volumes long... It died early in my opinion. And I have to agree with the recommendation for Tokyo Mew Mew. Fun, cute, and charming to the point it's disturbing if you think about it.

Re: Manga for a young girl

I dunno... I loved Card Captor Sakura and all.. but there's just something about it that tells me that it wouldn't be PERFECT for a young girl.

Question... why has no one suggested Doraemon yet?
Or possibly even Hamtaro? (though that would be hard to find in manga-form)

You could always stick with movie-mangas... such as My Neighbor Totoro or any other Miyazaki film mangas. (well, other than Princess Mononoke, of course)

...well, I have to agree with Abu Dhabi ( I kinda' have to )...
Dr. Slump and +Anima are great choices.

I know you think Dr. Slump is too perverted for your daughter, but if she's innocent enough: She won't get it. I know when I was young, those kind of naughty jokes slipped right past me. And trust me, I've seen a bunch of R rated movies when I was little. (Seeing those movies again made me realize how R rated they really were) ...well, I suppose with today's entertainment, and the kinds of friends these children make, it'll be near impossible for her to never get those jokes.
It really is just a fun-filled manga.

But I would suggest +Anima... I have to warn you, there is a FEW FEW FEW blood in it. It's part of a sad storyline (it does cheer up and it does teach a lesson though). But it's a heart-warming manga, with good morals. Full of adventure and fun! I don't see these kind of mangas around as much these days.

But if you want more suggestions, you can always try getting her into Pokemon... or possibly even Lagoon Engine.

I don't know that much shoujo, sorry.

The Tokyopop website has free samples, otherwise you really should purchase the licensed manga series you want to read. (Thats what money is for after all...)

Umn... Cardcaptor Sakura, Bino-Chan, Pokemon, Digimon, La Corda D'Oro Primo Passo.. Try that first *smile* ...
    Carve an amble now,
Saying that the day's still bright,
    And let's play with time.
