If you've ever read the manga Chrono Crudsade. Its got a great story to it, its only eight books long so it won't be to expensive, and its got a cast of characters that you will really come to love over the eight mangas. Avoid the anime at all cost though, its a disgrace to the manga.
This thread sounds awfully similar to your thread FMA.
You had better give some very good reasons WHY you think a certain manga is the best or this will be closed.

a) GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka- This is one of the greatest manga ever concieved.
b) Blood Alone- A great little oddity that has likeable characters.
c) Ode to Kirihito- An addictive read from the Kami-sama no Manga.
d) Yotsuba- A cute (yes, I just said cute when it wasn't referring to a girl) and funny
read.
e) Astro Boy- I think you know why
And you've probably already read Dragon Ball, so I won't include it.
OMX's list is pretty spot on however there are a few that i havent read on their. Myslef believe Apollos song is one of the greatest manga ever. However when it comes to more recent titles Slam Dunk is absolutely awesome, as well as another book by the same mangaka Vagbond which is just a stellar historical fiction retelling of Miyamoto Musashi. It has stellar art and a great story.
@ska_lives Vagabond really is great! It's one of my favorite manga and I love Inoue's way of "re-telling" Musashi's life. I loved it so much, my prized figure is a Musashi Miyamoto from Vagabond.
Other manga that are great (for me at least) are by Yuu Watase (Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, Imadoki and Zettai Kareshi).
You should also try Flame of Recca, Basilisk, Beck, Cromartie High School, Akira and Bremen.
I'm have many favorite manga so I can't choose which one is the best. Well, I'm think it was Chrono Crusaders. They have good story lines with action and romance. I'm would like to recommend this one, well is not new but is good. :D
Manga wise I would have to say I enjoy Air Gear. The manga makes the anime look pathetic in comparison. Besides you get all the extras and charecter info through experience. I love the manga.
