Practice.1- Ballad Poetry!

Vocabulary:

1. Stanzas: Groups of lines; is a division in a poem named for the number of lines it contains.
2. Verses: Is a name for a line of traditional poetry written in meter.
3. Ballads: Is a poem which tells a story.
4. Quatrains: Four-line stanza.

We will begin our poetry section with Ballads! We will write the first four verses, a quatrain, of a ballad as practice.

Example.

Ballad of Birmingham

Mother dear, may I go downtown
Instead of out to play,
And march the streets of Birmingham
In a Freedom March today?
