For the last few years, I've become a fan of classic and modern radio dramas (examples of this would be The Shadow, or Orson Wells' radio broadcast of "The War of the Worlds" on Halloween 1938).

As a result, I've wanted to create a radio drama with a few interested fanfiction writers, using an original work. Rather than broadcasting on radio, though, it would be far cheaper and easier to use the internet. I've been thinking hosting a 15-30 minute mp3 file of the completed work, complete with sound-effects, possible narration, as well as several voice actors would be perfect.

Those of you interested in writing a script or even just a short story for the concept, and those willing to participate, let me know.

I posted in the introduction section my thoughts on a co-op of fanfic of some sort, otherwise, I'm always good at participating at forum based RPG's so I could give it a try in some kind of story driven multi authored story, let's just hope I'm up to the task :P

Well, the trick with this one would be dividing the work, and having each person who was a voice actor in the performance record their own dialogue for mixing with the other sound sources later on.

Would a basic micro worth 15$ be good enough for the task? Though I don't have a .wave converter to put it in .mp3 so it may take a lot of space after I record....

Yeah, just a cheap microphone (I'm using the internal mic on my computer and an audio recording/editting program that came with the software) would do it.

As for converting to mp3, do you have iTunes?

Nope, but I could get it pretty easily, does it have a converter included or do I need to buy a pro version or something?

iTunes comes with a converter for making mp3 files out of songs on your playlist. So, all you'd need to do is import your dialogue into your playlist, convert it to mp3, and after exporting it, attach the files in an e-mail to whoever is in charge of sound mixing.

The trick with this, of course, is that the attached mp3 files for e-mail would have to be fairly small, only 10 second clips to retain any 16 bit sound quality to them.

^_^ it's a great idea! but i must forewarn you...

i knew people who tried to make one... and it sucked... very badly....

it's not just the script that you need to worry about... it's also the quality of the sound, quality of the sound effects, and the quality of the people speaking your lines... if one of those is out of tune, people can notice in a big way.

^_^ i have a feeling you already knew that with your previous expirience, just wanted to make it more known! best of luck though!

I can't seem to be able to send an e-mail right now...evil Hotmail. But as you wrote in your e-mail, my tone was monotone and I was near my microphone. I did say it was a test and all...and didn't know exactly how you would want it so I felt like doing one quick try and see how it would go. For the pointers, they are noted.

And about what Abu said, I agree that it wouldn't be easy, but if someone said that for anything that seemed just a tad hard, there wouldn't be much anything done today with all the specialisations that you need to get to simply get a good job. I just wonder if I'll have the time and talent, the rest isn't a problem for me, writing and inspiration I do so love, but I'm used to writing short stories, not long ones, I warn in advance.
