Would it have made sense for either of them to leave the worlds they knew and were apart of just to be with the other, when they could see each other as often as they liked? Furthermore do you physically have to be with someone all the time in order to love them? Just cause something doesn't turn out like we want it doesn't mean it was the wrong ending or bad.

Also: Innerhell is right. That would have been cheesy.

The movie takes place "in ancient times when gods still roamed the earth". Industry is just starting up. Quote:

| Newbie | Re: Princess Mononoke ending Nearly everyone of Miyazaki's movies have a deeper message to it. Mononoke was Miyazaki's later echo of Nausicaa - both of them deliver a similar message. Anyways - I rather liked the harmonious ending to mononoke. Come to think of it, Miyazaki rarely showed explicit romantic scenes.

To be honest, I didnt even notice the ending......... the focus was more on Miyazaki's intended message. But now that I think about it, I definitely agree with Chief and the others. San and Ashitaka have gone back to help totally different environments to grow further, but are still connected to each other. It wasnt like it was an ultimate goodbye or anything...... if anything, it was just mroe of an obstacle to their relationship.
