I watched a lot of Sailor Moon before it came to the states. They fought with love and justice and against monsters that came to threaten people's lives.

If you think about it most really old titles anime from that era were pretty violent (aka Akira) mostly were shown to little kids in Japan. If you sat down and watched it, it's pretty good plot wise, the characters are strong young women as well. I think it would appeal to younger girls.
