Just animal focussed. You can use a character if it's set in a zoo or something then.

I was kind of hoping people would use actual animals...not just a setting about animals (zoo) or a cat girl....I mean I know they are allowed but there are lots of series that have animals in them like Fruits Basket, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing (yes a bat is a mammal), etc... Just because it is different then what you normally do doesn't mean you can't attempt it...SOTW is about learning to do and use things you haven't or don't normally...not just to make an entry...thus why there are unusal themes chosen....at least that is IMO.

Nah, that's not allowed. There is no (visual) relation to an animal.
