The one true name of this series is 'Macross', as the 'Robotech' English dub is the frankinstien merging of the different anime series 'Macross', 'Mospeada' and 'Southern Cross', (though Macross is the core series of 'Robotech')...

The original Macross is considered one of the 'Classic' TV series to come out of the 1980s, during the 'Golden Age' of anime. Another interesting bit of trivia is that Harmony Gold (who produced Robotech) was granted the world wide trademark for 'Macross', but the Japanese company that sold the rights, after a lengthy battle in Japanese courts, didn't have the rights to sell it to begin with... As a result of trademark fiasco, the Macross movie (Macross: Do You Remember Love) which is considered one of the Sci-Fi gems from the early 'Golden Age', as well as the 1990s sequel, 'Macross 7', (who's voice cast is built around a Japanese Rock group) was never licensed for DVD distribution outside of Japan...

The original Macross series, uncut and digitally restored, with a new and correct voice dub is currently in distribution by ADV Films... (where that posted image is available as a wallpaper...) Macross: ADV Films Official website
