The reason Ryu is Xions Lieutenant is because Ryu has a piece of Xion's soul inside of him. I soulda told you. I admit I spaced off. I wrote a short story which is where the basis of the story comes from lol.

Xion saved Ryu, a long time ago, from a giant demon that was about to kill him. The demon had been pounding Ryu for like 10 minutes straight and Xion came to the rescue. Xion knew that Ryu would die if he didn't transfer some of his soul into him so he gave Ryu a piece of his soul and saved Ryu's life. At any time Xion can take it back and Ryu will die instantly and Ryu knows this. So Ryu serves Xion un questioning.
